Project Launch: T-8 Days!

There are over 375,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed every single year. One in two of us born after 1960 will be one of those receiving this devastating diagnosis; 50% will survive more than ten years after diagnosis.

That's a lot of statistics, taken from CRUK's website. They're pretty scary numbers.

To launch the project, I will be walking for one hour of every two - that is, 50% - for 37.5 hours over this weekend. I'll carry everything I will be carrying on the rest of the year's walks. It's going to be long and hard, especially in the early hours of the morning when it's dark, I'm tired, and I have no company. But it uses those scary statistics to launch the project and start something that, I hope, will be good.

February 3rd will be one year to the day since John's memorial service. February 4th is World Cancer Day. A fitting weekend to take on such a challenge, I think!

During their opening hours, I will spend my non-walking time at the Cancer Research UK charity shop in Sleaford. When they close, I will walk from Watergate Yard. I am so grateful to the staff and volunteers at both for allowing this. When Watergate Yard also closes, I will simply walk from home, where I will be able to shower and rest a little. The hours I will be walking for are detailed in the picture below, although feedback on this picture has ranged from "makes sense to me" to "clear as mud", so it may not help in some cases...

Any support would be gratefully received: donations; moral support and company while walking; or sharing the project's story on social media. Whatever you can do.

I have Karen and Mick with me on Saturday 1300-1600, and Mark has kindly volunteered for the graveyard shift 0200-0400. I would love to see some familiar faces in town!

About Me

Hi, I'm Abi, and In Their Honour is my crazy brainchild. I love being out in nature, and decided I'd walk the Coast to Coast route. My parents got me the guidebook, and then... well. Then it all got a bit mad.
